Tortuga Bay beach is perhaps the most iconic tourist destination in Santa Cruz. This is a very fine white sand beach of coral origin in which visitors can enjoy a beautiful coastal landscape, sun and waves for surfers and kayakers (it is possible to rent kayaks on site for USD 20.0). In addition, it is possible to walk the trails where the visitors can admire the fauna and flora characteristics of the place.
For safety, all visitors must follow the recommendations of the Galapagos National Park indicated at the entrance to the beach. Also, due to the strong sun equatorial it is recommended to use sunscreen, wear hats and bring water to hydrate as there are no shops at the beach.
The path is completely paved and has several rest points. To carry out this walk it is recommended to wear closed shoes or sandals and not to leave the path. Upon reaching the beach visitors can continue through additional trails to visit the bay and other places of interest.
The trailhead to Tortuga Bay is located at the west end of Charles Binford Street. You can reach this point by walking from the pier in a westbound direction and taking Baltra Avenue. From Baltra Avenue, the access to Charles Binford Street and the start of the path to Tortuga Bay are well signposted. Also, you can take a taxi-pickup truck from any point of the island to the trailhead to Tortuga Bay for a cost of USD 1.50. From the sentry of the Galapagos National Park at the trailhead, the walking time to Tortuga Bay beach is approximately 30 minutes. Entrance to Tortuga Bay is free; however, all visitors must complete the check-in and check-out at the Galapagos National Park sentry. This allows park rangers to know if someone is missing or in need of assistance when the entrance closes at 6:00 p.m.
Another way to get to Tortuga Bay is by a hired boat in Puerto Ayora. Options include water taxis and snorkeling tours.
