The ravine of the Tomebamba River is the end of the second terrace that shapes the city. The first corresponds to the hills of Cullca and the other to the low plain where the modern city is. The second terrace was the seat of the Spanish population, then in the Republican era around it was implanted the mestizo city and in recent times, the metropolis extends in the east-west direction through the axes that lead to the other places of the region.
The vegetation is present in the urban complex, its form is that of a cordon by the river, which serves as a natural arch to the buildings, as well as the base or link of the architecture of the ravine.
