Tarqui portee

AZUAY-GIRON

                                                The Portee de Tarqui is a high hill with a gorge to its forehead that does not allow the passage but shoulder to shoulder; On your right there are some steep breñas, and to your left a forest all cut, between which is the gorge for Girón, and that is what they call the door.

This place was the scene of the military contenders that occurred on February 27, 1829, the glorious Battle of Tarqui, in which the Yaguachi battalion had passed reinforcing rifles and beaten the division of General Plaza, when the hill appeared on a strong column personally led by the general the sea that instantly re-established the fight.

Part of the history of the Portee de Tarqui is the valley of the Girón, this is a town of historical remembrance as it is within the territory in which the Battle of Tarqui was fought.
