The temple was rebuilt in 1926, after being severely affected by an earthquake. The facade of the tempo has a Greek and Roman style. Inside is the Virgen del Quinche, the target of numerous pilgrimages. In front of the church the Parque Central Juan de Salinas, in whose center is the pool that adorned the Plaza Grande de Quito during colonial times and was moved and installed in Sangolquí in 1915.
