Rumiñahui village
General Alberto Enríquez Gallo, through Decree No. 169 of May 31, 1938, elevated the Sangolquí Parish to the Cantón category with the name of the indigenous Rumiñahui hero.
In order to achieve the cantonization, a group of citizens integrated the Civic Board, which promoted the creation of the new canton. The idea spread throughout the population of Sangolquí and its surroundings, until the Pro-cantonization Committee was formed, presided over by Alonso Báez.
In addition, a group of young women was formed, which was called the Feminine Committee and which fought for the same goal. They did not step back until they heard from General Enriquez: "I will cantonize Sangolquí, for you".
The Rumiñahui Canton is located southeast of the Province of Pichincha, twenty minutes from Quito; It is characterized by a pleasant climate and its average temperature is 17 degrees Celsius. Its extension is 134.15 km.
