The pucará de Rumicucho is part of a system of fortifications of which the pucaráes of La Marca, Trigoloma, Pambamarca and the valley of Guayllabamba are also known.
The Pucará de Rumicucho, or the fortress of Rumicucho (corner of stone), is said to have been a military center. The five terraces made of pink stone from the local quarries are interwoven on a hill, whose summit allows a broad view of the area, which the Incas must have found useful in their monitoring actions.
Currently the museum place is closed but there is access to the ruins. The place is located 34 km from Quito at an altitude of 2,419 asl. To get there, take the Manuel Cordova Galarza Highway and then the old road to San José de Minas, approximately 2.5 kilometers away.
