Puyo is the meeting point of the northern and southern Ecuadorian Amazon. It is a goos starting point to visit indigenous populations. Points of interest are the Omaere ethnobotanical park, the Altar Volcano, the botanical garden, the Huaorani museum, and others. In the city you can book trips to several points in Pastaza. One of the most appreciated activities is the biking route from Baños to Puyo.
From Quito take the Panamerican road to Ambato and then the Amazonian road through Baños until Puyo. It a 250km drive in well maintained roads.
There are several bus cooperatives that run this service from various cities such as Tena, Banos, Coca, Quito and Guayaquil. The terminal is located 1 km SW of the city.
