Punta Carola - Las Tijeretas pathway - San Critobal Galapagos
GALAPAGOS-SAN CRISTOBAL
There is an exclusively pedestrian loop that takes visitors through the Interpretation Center, Punta Carola and Las Tijeretas. The entrance to this paved path and its three places of visit is free. Generally, visitors spend an entire morning or an afternoon on this trail and enjoy all of its visitor sites.
INTERPRETATION CENTER
For those who arrive to Galápagos through San Cristóbal, the Interpretation Center is the ideal place to start the trip. Here, visitors can learn about the geological origin of the islands, the unique flora and fauna of the Galápagos, the history of human settlements in the archipelago and the conservation efforts.
PUNTA CAROLA
This white sand beach is a perfect place to bathe in the sea, to snorkel and to enjoy the sun and sand. On the beach you can see a large colony of sea lions. Tourists can take photos with these friendly animals as long as they do not bother them or feed them. After the beach, towards the Punta Carola Lighthouse, there is a short path that takes visitors through the rocks to see a colony of marine iguanas and several species of birds. In addition, for its great natural beauty and geographical location, with a view to the west, Punta Carola Beach is one of the preferred places to watch the sunset in San Cristóbal.
LAS TIJERETAS
Las Tijeretas presents several alternatives for the delight of visitors. In the first place, there are three viewpoints around Las Tijeretas hill. These are ideal to contemplate the coastal landscape of San Cristóbal and take wonderful photos. Second, there is an access to a sea inlet ideal to bathe in the sea and snorkel. Also, this loop is very popular among those who simply enjoy a walk or go jogging.
RECOMMENDATIONS
For safety, all visitors must follow the recommendations
of the Galapagos National Park indicated at the beginning of the path. These include not leaving the trail, not disturbing or feeding the animals and not littering.
Also, visitors must keep in mind that the path is not lit and it is difficult to see after the sunset.
Finally, due to the strong equatorial sun, it is suggested to use sunscreen, wear a cap or hat and bring water to hydrate since there are no shops after Playa Mann.
The start of the footpath loop is located at the north end of Alsacio Northia Avenue, after Playa Mann, on the outskirts of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The journey to this point takes approximately 15 minutes by foot and 5 minutes by bicycle from the center of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Another way to get there is to rent a taxi-pickup truck for a cost of USD 1.50. Walking the entire path without stopping at any of the visiting sites for approximately 30 min.
There is also a path that runs along the coast that only leads to Punta Carola. Unlike the lopp, this path is not fully paved but is relatively flat.
