GUAYAS-GUAYAQUIL

The museum occupies the building that was originally the residence of the journalist Ismael Pérez Pazmino, founder of Diario el Universo, who named the Villa as Rosa Herlinda, in honor of his wife. The design and construction corresponds to the Spanish architect Joaquín Pérez-Nín de Cardona. It was built between 1936 and 1940, being inaugurated in 1941.

In the late 70, the mansion passed into the hands of several financial institutions. Thus in 1978, it became the Archaeological Museum of the Bank of the Pacific, which acquired 8,000 cultural objects in that year. Then, in 2003, the central bank took over the museum, initiating a restoration process, Culminándolo as a museum and cultural center.

Today, this patrimonial asset of Guayaquil, it is the seat of the Presley Norton Museum, which was inaugurated as such in 2007 and whose name pays homage to the research work of archaeologist Presley Norton Yoder (1932 – 1993) who gave up his findings, which include samples on the life and traditions of the aborigines of the littoral.

Norton, discovered in 1970 a large archeological reserve in the region of the area of the district, where he inaugurated a museum of site. The sample is part of a collection of objects formed by Norton and Leonor Perez. His legacy also includes jewels and ornaments, which testify to the development in the metallurgy of the aboriginal peoples.
