Portoviejo city Ecuador

MANABI-PORTOVIEJO

It is a colonial city and capital of the province, one of the first founded by the Spaniards in our territory. It is located in the hinterlands, in an area sheltered by hills, after it changed its place to keep safe from pirate attacks. It was designated as the capital of the province since its creation in 1824. It is known as the city of the "real tamarinds" by the kind of tropical tree that predominates in the area. The trade characterizes this city, which occupies the sixth place among the most populated of the equator, and where most of the population of the canton is urban.
