                                                The indigenous market, known as Plaza de los Ponchos, gives you a unique experience, here you will find an exhibition of local handicrafts and much more, this folkloric event takes place throughout the week, but on Saturdays it is when artisans from different regions They arrive at the place, making this fair one of the largest in the country.

Walking a Saturday through the market is to penetrate a visual tumult that is the expression and synthesis of a people that has persevered and triumphed, keeping intact a significant and prosperous way of life. You can only admire this alchemy so rare in any society. You just have to remember that when you finish shopping, the hat, shirt and pants match. Too many enthusiastic gringos have left the market wearing a spectacularly scandalous outfit.

The Plaza de los Ponchos is located in the middle of the cheerful and picturesque city of Otavalo, where you walk amidst thousands of tapestries, ponchos, thick hand-woven wool bags, hats, gloves, scarves, embroidered blouses, the famous strips that are used as belts by the natives, espadrilles, shigras, dresses, scarves and much more.
