Within the 650 hectares of the Pahuma Orchid Reserve, located northwest of Pichincha, you can admire more than 270 species of orchids. On this site, ideal for bird watching, there lives the spectacled bear.
El Pahuma has three waterfalls and pools of natural water in which the Yumbos performed their ritual baths. The highlights are the Pacaya or Escondida waterfalls, which have a 45-meter drop, and the Shunguyacu (Heart of Water), which has a drop of 80 meters.
The camping area is equipped with a toilet, a bonfire area and cooking space. Visitors must bring their own food, sleeping bags and water. It is recommended that a guide be hired for groups or families of more than six people. There is also a rustic cabin with 10 bunk beds.
CLIMATE: Its extension characterizes the climate resulting in a variety of micro climates.
After 10 minutes of walking, along a path surrounded by bromeliads, mosses and ferns, there is the Gallo de la Peña waterfall.
Camping: $ 5 per person.
45 minutes from Quito by car or bus, about an hour and a half; your income is made from the Calacalí - La Independencia road, at km 43 of the highway.
