Mushily Tsáchila cultural center - Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas
SANTO DOMINGO TSACHILAS-SANTO DOMINGO
The Mushily Cultural Center ($ 3, 9am 5pm) belongs to the Tsáchila community near Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. In this zone there are several Tsáchilas communities which have achieved a lot of prestige in recent years due to the fact of conserving their culture. You can still see people wearing their traditional outfits with their characteristic hair painted red.
In this tourist center there is an exhibition that consists of several stations where a guide shows tourists the life and traditions of the Tsáchila community. Through several shacks, the guide shows familiar, cultural, artisan, medicinal aspects. They have looms, the stone sauna, the clothes, a small museum and the ceremosnias cave for clean and ayahuasca intake. Near the end, there is an artistic presentation with traditional instruments and dances. Finally, they teach tourists to shoot with a servant and small local crafts are available.
Every year the Tsáchilas celebrate the KASAMA festival which is the celebration of the new year. This celebration changes every year. The celebration consists of the meeting of all Tsáchilas communities, cleanings, drinking chicha and eating guanta. The Tsáchilas elders lead the event and there is also the intake of Ayahuasca by the shaman. Tourists are invited to see the customs. However, they are not accepted in some events where only the elders meet.
10 km from the center of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas via Quevedo to the point marked on the map. Then you enter to the left for something more than 2.5 km. The road is asphalted but the last 500 meters is a third level road.
In BUS
There is no rural / urban bus to the place. However, you can go on a bus that goes to Quevedo to the point marked on the map. Then walk or rent a motorcycle taxi for $ 2 to the community (3Km, 15 min).
The best way is in your own car. However, a taxi from the city costs around $ 10. There are no tours.
