Muisne the charming island
Muisne is a small village surrounded by rivers and the sea. Its beach is not as popular as the others in the province but is undoubtedly an alternative for those seeking peace and rest.
There is a small protected area of mangrove forest which is worth visiting. Tours are organized by FUNDECOL and prices vary according to the number of visitors and the season. The tours include boat trips by the Muisne River and guided walks.
Buses from the city of Esmeraldas in direction north-south pass Tonsupa, Atacames, Sua and Same reaching a point known as 'El Relleno'. From there it is possible to take a canoe to reach the Island of Muisne (0,25 USD). There are 5 daily buses routing El Relleno-Santo Domingo. From Santo Domingo connections to any city are possible. The company Transportes Occidentales offers a night bus Quito-El Relleno and vice-versa.
