MORONA SANTIAGO

                                                The Province of Morona Santiago is one of the 24 provinces that make up the Republic of Ecuador, located in the south central part of the country, in the geographical zone known as Amazon region, mainly on the outer flanks of the western cordillera in the west and the extensive plain Amazon to the east. Its administrative capital is the city of Macas, which is also its largest and most populated city. It occupies a territory of about 25.690 km ², being the second province of the country by extension, behind Pastaza. It limits to the north with Pastaza, the north-west with Tungurahua, the west with Chimborazo, Cañar and Azuay and to the east with the departments of Loreto and Amazon, pertaining to Peru.

Its economy is based on trade, tourism and agriculture. The largest extractive industries of the province are made up of logging and agriculture (fish farming, poultry farming, etc.); The provision of services as civil servants, public servants, small industry and manufacturing remain important.

The moronense forests are the cradle of 3 indigenous nationalities of the Amazon Region of Ecuador: the Achuar, the Shiwiar and the Shuar.
