COTOPAXI-LATACUNGA

In this building are linked historical times like the Inca, colonial and contemporary, either by the visualization of architectural styles as in the contents that the museum possesses, which allows precisely comparing these times. In 1959 the municipality of Latacunga became the owner of the Mills and award the building and grounds adjacent to the House of Culture core of Cotopaxi.

This institution has erected several areas of cultural diffusion adapting spaces for the various artistic and literary activities.

Inside the mill area we find the ethnographic museum consisting of three rooms: Folk art, archaeology and folklore. There is also an Pinacoteca (for the exhibition and Permanent Exhibition of plastic arts).

The building dates from 1736, was built by the Jesuits, taking advantage of the great flow (at the time) of the river Yanayacu and the River Cutuchi. They decided to establish a grain mill, for this it was built canals, aqueducts and dams with old stone molars.
