Montañita is considered the capital of surf in Ecuador. It is located north of the Santa Elena province. Besides the 3 m waves, it is well known for the night life. The small town is full of bars and clubs with diversity of food, drinks and music.
It is possible to reach Montañita from Quito only by land. The most recommended route is to take a bus to Guayaquil (8 h, 12 USD) and then a bus to Montañita (3.5 h, 6 USD). You could also fly to Guayaquil (45 min, 100 USD) and then take the bus. Taxis are not recommended because of the price (400-600 USD).
You could also go through Manta, then take a bus in direction to Salinas, and take off at Montañita.
From Guayaquil there is a direct bus connection, with 6 rides a day from 5:45 am to 6:30 pm. It takes 3.5 h and 6 USD.
