The lagoons of Mojanda are surrounded by grasslands and remnants of native forests that maintain a biodiversity representative of the northern Andean Moorlands.
The lake complex is formed by three lagoons, the first and largest known as Caricocha or male lagoon that is volcanic origin, next to this lagoon are two smaller, the Huarmicocha or Laguna female and the Yanacocha or Laguna Negra, all of them will transmit the tranquility of its waters and the life of its environment.
It is located on the provincial boundary between Pichincha and Imbabura, at the foot of Cerro Fuya Fuya at 4,263 MASL; Passing the population of Pedro Moncayo, 17 kms south of Otavalo.
To get to Mojanda there are no buses. The rent of a van in the center of Otavalo costs 6 to 10 dollars.
If you are in your own car you can take the road that runs from Otavalo to the first lagoon.
