The province of Manabí is one of the 24 provinces that make up the Republic of Ecuador, located in the west of the country, in the geographical area known as coastal region or coast. Its administrative capital and most populated city is the city of Portoviejo, occupies a territory of about 18,400 km², being the fifth province of the country by extension, behind Pastaza, Morona Santiago, Orellana and Sucumbíos. Besides the continental territory, they belong to the jurisdiction of the province the island of La Plata and the island of the city. It borders to the north with Esmeraldas, in the east with Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and the rivers, to the south with Santa Elena, to the east and to the south with Guayas and to the west with the Pacific Ocean along a maritime strip of about 350 kilometers.
