COTOPAXI-LATACUNGA

                                                Located in the central highlands of the country, Latacunga offers a traditional atmosphere typical of the Ecuadorian highlands. Colorful and full of farmers, on Tuesday and Saturday of the fair you can appreciate the fresh agricultural products that the people of nearby communities bring to the city to market them.
At an altitude of 2750 m.s. Its climate is temperate with temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius with freezing winds from the Cotopaxi volcano.
Its main festivity the "Black Mama" summons local and foreign tourists to the traditional parade in commemoration of the Virgin of the Mercedes, protector of the city from the eruptions of the volcano. It is celebrated the weekend closest to September 23, 24 and another celebration around November 8.

Its typical food is a savory and forceful dish called Chugchucara made of fried (fried pork), potatoes, pork rinds (small pieces of pork with fried skin), leather (fried pork skin), ripe fried, toasted (corn) toasted), mote, corn popcorn and cheese empanadas. Additionally, the "allullas" (bread species) and the leaf cheese are very traditional and can be found in almost any sale position.

Latacunga is one of the starting points to the Cotopaxi volcano (taxi $ 40 to the refuge) to contact local agencies to plan their accession.
