It is the area of contemporary bohemian Quito: filmmakers, painters, actors and musicians live in this neighborhood of old houses, located east of La Mariscal. Here, many sites of cultural interest -individual movie theaters, restaurants, film and television producers, art galleries and handicraft stores- share their space with residences, universities, hotels, plazas and parks.
La Floresta is also a space for sport and entertainment. It houses the General Rumiñahui Coliseum, which is not only a center for competitions and training, but also the place where the biggest concerts in Quito take place.
Gastronomy is one of the specialties of the sector. The market of La Floresta caters to the most sophisticated restaurants in the city, with products such as tree tomatoes, naranjilla, cherimoyas, papayas and uvillas. Restaurants of typical food, Chinese, Italian, Peruvian and cooking-fusion offer first class menus and vibrant atmospheres. In addition, during the evenings, the Plaza de la Vicentina becomes a popular gastronomy fair: if you pass by, do not forget to try the Mishqui tripe.
To get to and visit La Floresta you have some alternatives, if you take the Avenida Oriental you can go to the Vicentina sector, the closest neighbor to this neighborhood.
Another alternative to enter is through the 12 de Octubre Avenue, through one of the cross roads to the Catholic University. A third alternative is to cross Colon Avenue in east-west direction
