The Heart Islands and frigates are located near the mouth of the Chone River, in front of the cities of Bahía de Caráquez and San Vicente. The shelter protects the last remaining mangrove remnants in this estuary. The area is a resting and breeding site for seabirds and shorebirds, among which an important frigate colony stands out. Due to its proximity and easy access, it has become a favorite place for recreational activities. The routes through its canals and walks between the mangrove swamps will allow us to understand why it is considered a refuge for many species.
