Between the cities of Guayaquil and Durán, in the middle of the great Río Guayas, there are two islands that have been an important part of the history of this region: the Santay Island and the Gallo Island. Originally formed by the accumulation of sediments, these islands are now surrounded by mangrove trees. In the interior of Santay Island, and as a testament to that permanent relationship with the river, there is a large plain that is flooded in winter. This great wetland is used by waterfowl that find an important resting place, shelter and nesting.
Pedestrian, cars and fluvial access: access for pedestrians and cyclists is given through a bridge located in Guayaquil on El Oro Street, next to the estuary. The river access is carried out by boarding boats located at the pier of the Yatch Club of Guayaquil, diagonal to the municipal palace. (Cooperativa de servicio las palmeras de Santay).
