The Isabela Tunnels are a formation of rocks shaped like natural tunnels and bridges. These originated when the burning lava touched the sea water forming bubbles that then partially collapsed. This site is perhaps the most popular destination of Isabela because it offers the possibility of snorkeling with sea lions, turtles, sharks, penguins, manta rays, and observe lobsters, starfish and countless fish.
The only way to get there is through a daily tour that departs from Puerto Villamil, Isla Isabela. The trip requires approximately 30 minutes of navigation where you can observe giant blankets and occasionally dolphins. The tour costs USD 125 and includes snorkeling equipment, guide and refreshments.
RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended to bring plenty of water and something to eat. Due to the strong equatorial sun we also recommend the use of sunscreen and hat. Finally, it is recommended to follow the instructions of the captain of the boat and the naturalist guide.
