The Ingapirca archaeological site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. Called "Inca Wall" it is a Cañar-Inca construction under Inca rule. It is the largest Inca construction in Ecuador. It is an excellent choice as a day trip from Cuenca. You must enter with Guia and the visit lasts approximately 45 minutes. There are wonderful views with Andean landscapes and walks around the archaeological site.
Admission is $ 2 for locals and $ 6 for foreigners. 50% discount for seniors and children. The ticket includes the entrance to the museum where Cañaris and Incas artifacts are exhibited.
You can camp for free and from there you can start or arrive by the three-day trek of the "Camino del Inca". The Inca Trail connects Ingapirca with the community of Achupallas. This community is around 30Km, 40 min southeast of Alausí, passing through the community of Guasuntos.
BY BUS:
The closest city is El Tambo (around 8Km from Ingapirca) $ 2, 2 hours, where you can find lodging. The buses depart frequently from each half hour to Cuenca. From El Tambo you can rent a taxi $ 5, 10 minutes or buses every half hour $ 0.50, 30 minutes. There is a way to take a bus in the Cañar cooperative from Cuenca to Ingapirca at 9:00 and 12:20 and back at 13:00 and 15:45, $ 2.5, 2 hours.
