Ibarra city - Ecuador

IMBABURA-IBARRA

Ibarra (officially Villa de San Miguel de Ibarra), called until independence Villa Real and Very Loyal of San Miguel de Ibarra, is a city located in the I North Region, Sierra Norte Region of Ecuador. Historically known as "The White City" for its white façades with which the reconstructed city was blessed in 1872 after the devastating earthquake of 1868.
In addition to the settlements of Spaniards, the city welcomed Greeks, Portuguese and other Europeans into the town. The phrases are also very common: "a city that always comes back" for its picturesque countryside, summer weather and kindness of its inhabitants.
It is very visited by national and foreign tourists as a place of rest, landscape, culture and history. It is a cultural city where art, writing, painting, theater and history predominate; there is also a growing tourist and hotel offer offered for the entire area.
Recently it has received awards as the capital of culture for its proximity to cities such as Otavalo (capital of the cosmopolitan culture of Ecuador, and capital of indigenous culture), Cotacachi (gastronomic capital), San Antonio de Ibarra (artisan capital), Atuntaqui (capital of fashion and textile capital of Ecuador), Quito (political, economic, industrial, cultural and touristic capital of the country), City of Knowledge (educational and technological capital of northern South America) and the northern valleys (Afro-descendant cultural center) ); being communicated with all of these by an excellent road and rail system (tourist) being at least five minutes and no more than an hour of most of these.
In addition, belonging to the most ethnically and culturally diverse province of the country, as well as the province with the most foreign immigration flow in Ecuador, has characterized Ibarra for initiating a strong process of cosmopolitanism. It is the main road hub of the north of Ecuador, as its connections turn and divert towards the four main axes, communicating on the south towards Quito, on the west towards the Ecuadorian Pacific coast, on the north towards the border with Colombia and on the west towards the Oriental-Amazon Region.
Ibarra is the capital of the province of Imbabura and the I North Region.
