How to take a plane to Galapagos
GALAPAGOS
To get to Galapagos all visitors must take a plane from the cities of Quito or Guayaquil. The three airlines that provide this service are LATAM, Avianca and Tame, all of which have daily flights to the islands of Baltra-Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal.
Before checking in at the airport, or before going to the boarding gate for those who made the online check-in, visitors should approach the offices of the Biosecurity Agency for Galapagos (ABG). Here luggage is checked to detect and prevent the introduction of agents that could endanger native species. For more information on the list of permitted, restricted and prohibited products, check the websites of the Galapagos National Park Service (More info) or the ABG (More info).
In addition, at this point visitors must fill out the respective immigration form, pay the entrance fee to the Galapagos National Park and obtain the immigration card. The entrance fee depends on the visitors' type of residence in Ecuador and place of origin:
-USD 100 for foreign tourists
-USD 50 for foreign tourists from a country of the
Andean Community or MERCOSUR
-USD 6 for Ecuadorian tourists
-USD 25 for foreign tourists enrolled in an institution
Ecuadorian education
All children under 12 years of age pay half the fee in each category.
THESE FILTERS CAN ADD FROM 30 TO 45 MINUTES to THE REGULAR TIME OF THE CHECK-IN. Once these steps are completed, visitors can continue boarding their flight normally.
Finally, once in San Cristóbal or Baltra, visitors must present their migration card at the migration offices of the Galápagos Government Council at the airport. The migration card must be kept safe as it must be stamped at departure or heavy fines are applied to those who lose their card.
