Guayaquil Anthropological and Contemporary Art Museum

Anthropological and Contemporary Art Museum (MAAC), belonging to the central Bank of Ecuador, is an area dedicated to culture and other related activities. Its design resembles a large pre-columbian boat and inside there are exhibition sites, museums and research areas, a film screening room and a esplanade for outdoor shows, and also has a large patio of meals and general services.
This sector was incorporated into a historic monument known as the Fortin, which was formerly used to defend the city from pirate attack, this site was restored and a suitable environment was created to regain due importance.
It has three blocks: corresponding to the areas of administration, documentary and workshops, it houses a collection of more than 50,000 archaeological pieces from the Aboriginal era of the Ecuadorian coast between 8000 BC and 1400 A.D.; And a collection of 3.000 works of modern art, it has areas of exhibition of 3000 m2, spaces for the art and archaeology funds, to more than one auditorium for 400 people.
The architectural design corresponds to an analysis of the functions and services that it houses, and takes as a conceptual reference one of the fundamental creations of the cultural process of the Ecuadorian coast, the raft Manteña Huancavilca.
