A charming indigenous community famous for its "Fair Thursdays". Cataloged as one of the largest fairs in the country where hundreds of peasants come to the main square to sell the products of their land. Descendants of the Puruha tribe, at an altitude of around 3000 masl, 90% of its population is indigenous bilingual Kichua and Spanish. You can organize hikes, horseback riding, cycling and enjoy the spectacular scenery from where you can see nearby volcanoes on clear days.
Located around 50Km from Riobamba, it can be accessed by bus with frequent routes from Riobamba every 20 min. Guamote is on the via Riobamab - Cuenca, so the buses to Cuenca leave you at the Panamericana (ask the driver the entrance to Guamote) Once at the entrance, walk about 1Km a small climb to reach the town.
