The city of Esmeraldas is the capital of the so-called Green province. It was an important marine, commercial, and oil fishing port, but following the earthquake in 2016, its activities decreased considerably. The most important oil refinery in the country and the Balao seaport, point of export of this resource is located near this city and in the northern part of Playa de Las Palmas, one of the favorite places for Esmeraldeños and visitors.
It offers beautiful beaches with landscapes and warm weather. Its coastline, as well as its ecological reserves, make it one of the most visited tourist destinations in the country, enjoying a favorable temperature throughout the year.
Aerial: It has the Coronel Carlos Concha Torres Airport, with flights from Quito.
Terrestrial: To get to Esmeraldas from Quito you take the road that passes in the middle of the world, Calacali, Banks, Puerto Quito and Quine about 5 h in vehicle. Another alternative route is the route Aloag-Santo Domingo-Esmeraldas to 5 h 30 m of journey.
