Its singular name of "Cerro del Muerto" is due to a natural rocky elevation, that according to the first sailors of the sea outside, to the human eye (seen from a distant point), it shows the profile of a person lying with the hands to the chest, to which they baptized like "the Dead One". Geographically, the place is nothing more than a set of three hills not greater than 100 meters above sea level.
The urban legend says that it was a "heavy" place because at midnight, a band of music was heard that surprised the nearby villages. It was also said that the site was "delighted" because there he used to bury the dead with all his garments in earthenware jars and that at midnight the souls went to the church to pray and then returned to their chambers.
This place is great for adventure tourism, ideal for excursions, camping, climbing, biking and pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Virgen de La Roca, a place of veneration recognized at national level.
The access is simple, ascended by concrete staircases sheltered with 15 columns that narrate with their marble plates the cross of Jesus, revealing the Catholic fervor that has always existed in the parish. From that height you can see a panoramic view of the Morro.
From Guayaquil you can travel along the road to the coast, to General villamil (beaches), located 90 kilometers from this city. of beaches, you take the way to the Morro. Before reaching the town, on the right side of the road, there is an entrance with the sign: "The Virgin of the Rock". Continuing on this ballasted road you reach the parking area.
