Durán, is a canton of the province of Guayas, in Ecuador. It is located on the eastern bank of the Guayas River. It is located in front of the city of Guayaquil, provincial capital, which is joined by the National Unity Bridge. The city of Eloy Alfaro, is the head of the Canton Durán. According to official data of the INEC according to census 2010, the canton has 255,769 inhabitants. 1
It is considered part of the conurbation of Guayaquil which is the second most populated city of the conurbation and is also part of the Planning Zone # 8 along with the canton of Guayaquil and Samborondón, both separated by the national Unity Bridge.
It includes in its jurisdiction the Santay Island, important ecological space and tourist destination.
From Guayaquil you can reach by land crossing the Bridge of the national unit, and by river by means of boats that make transport from the Malecon.
