San Bartolomé de Déleg is a canton of the province of Cañar in Ecuador, 30 minutes from the city of Azogues, and 45 minutes from the city of Cuenca, at an altitude of 2661msnm. It has a population of 6,221 inhabitants.
On June 1, 1699, the place is declared as a town. It is not known exactly when the village of Déleg is independent of San Miguel de Cojitambo and also when it is declared as a parish. It is thought that this fact is likely to have passed before 1771, but there is no written data of this until 23 May of that year, when the Cuenca Regiment is elevated to the category of governance and Déleg appears in the act as one of its parishes. In the nineteenth century in the hacienda of Surampalti, was born Luis Cordero Crespo, who even became president of Ecuador. Solano, the only parish in the canton was created on June 13th of the year 1916.
The current Déleg canton, belonged to the city of Azogues until February 27, 1992, when, in the Government of Dr. Rodrigo Borja Cevallos, it is declared as a canton. It is currently an area of high emigration abroad, which has allowed the construction of new businesses and constructions, but there are also many archeological sites, remnants of their past, including part of the Inca Trail, among others.
The inhabitants are dedicated to the agriculture and the confection of handicrafts and textiles, like ponchos and shigras of varied colors and designs. A few kilometres on the plateau of El Tablon, lies the ruins of Pachamama, Incasica construction in stone that possibly had a military religious character.
