Cotacachi volcano

IMBABURA-COTACACHI

                                                In the Western cordillera of the Andes is this volcano that has a height of 4939 masl. Geologically the Cotacachi is an ancient volcano of Pleistocene origin, ruined by glacier erosion.

Ascending is a challenge of scaling up the eroded of its summit. It is considered that the result of one of the eruptions was formed the volcano Cuicocha that in which arises a lagoon of the same name in its crater.

In this volcano there have been numerous visits and scientific studies by known geologists such as Wolf, Wimper, Stubel and La Condamine. It is the only volcano with presence of snow in the province, it is called by the people Quechua huarmi satin or Cerro female.
