A city located at the foot of the Cotacachi volcano and very close to Otavalo. It is located at 2418 Masl, its people very laborious, it is dedicated especially to the leather work obtaining quality products and to the fashion much appreciated in international fairs.
It is also considered the musical capital of Imbabura, for the passion expressed by its people for the music called Etymologically as the castle of Light.
This city has received several international awards as in 2002 that received the "Cities for Peace" award, which was awarded by UNESCO and on April 23, 2005 was declared "first illiteracy free territory in Ecuador" and therefore receives a UNESCO medal, and in the year 2007 receives the prize digital cities.
It is 10 km from Otavalo. In km 92 of the Pan-American Highway takes the deflection to the west, 6 km more to Cotacachi, are about 40 min from Ibarra.
