Concha de Perla is a natural sea pool with crystal clear water ideal for swimming with sea lions, marine iguanas and snorkeling. Access to this wonderful site is free. However, visitors must bring snorkeling gear or rent it at local agencies or hotels in Puerto Villamil.
RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended to visit this wonderful site at low tide since it improves visibility underwater. It is also preferable to use fins especially if visitors are going to swim near the areas of entry and exit from the sea.
Due to the strong equatorial sun it is recommended to use sunscreen, wear a cap or hat and bring water to hydrate.
Finally, visitors are asked not to disturb or feed the animals.
From the center of Puerto Villamil visitors can walk for approximately 1 km towards the Embarcadero Pier. The beginning of the path to Concha de Perla is a few meters before the pier and is well signposted. Visitors can also take a taxi-pickup truck from anywhere in town; the journey is very short and has the value of USD 1. The trail is made of timber and passes through the mangrove for approximately 300 meters. Along this trail visitors can find sea lions and marine iguanas sleeping, it is recommended not to touch or disturb them. However, visitors can get close enough to take wonderful photos.
