Compadre lagoons

                                                In the Podocarpus National Park you can find the famous lagoons of the compadre of incredible scenic value that is the result of ancient glaciers that have left their mark on the ground.

In the moors of the Cordillera Central de los Andes, in the knot of Sabanilla, to 3000 m S. N. M., there are 136 lagoons, which are the most valuable resource of Podocarpus.

The name of "Lagunas del Compadre" was adopted in honor of Mr. Julio Bustamante, known with that nickname, who promoted and disseminated his existence. The best known are the lagoons of compadre, bells, Bombuscaro, Guadeloupe, forestry, flags, rump of cow, margaritas, among others.

The sector has characteristics of high Andean areas, among them moss, lichens, ferns, orchids, stunted shrubs, among other plants, that form a layer similar to a sponge where the water is reholded and live ducks, seagulls, hummingbirds, the tapir and the Spectacled bear.
