The community of Catacocha was declared as Cultural Patrimony of the Nation in 1994 since it was the cradle of a great civilization called Palta. A community formed by adobe houses and wooden balconies. The topology of its surroundings, gives rise to unique viewpoints from where you can see the surrounding communities.
Sunday's fair gathers the population around the central square. Here the villagers bring to sell their agricultural products with fresh fruits and vegetables. Likewise, the Temple of Lourdes collects replicas of religious paintings.
At 600 meters from Catacocha you will find the El Shiriculapo viewpoint or the Inca viewpoint. Formed by a large granite rock with a drop of 150 meters on the western side. Access to the Shiriculapo is by Guido Díaz Hospital, ascending by a staircase on the rock. Other natural viewpoints are: Chininuma which is located northeast of the city. Natural viewpoint La Quinta, north of the city. On the way to this viewpoint you can see several trees and native plants. Finally, the natural viewpoint El Pizaca with beautiful walks.

From Loja, Catacocha is at 92Km in the direction of Macará. Frequent buses make this tour and pass through Catacocha ($ 2.5, 2 hours).
From Macará the bus that goes to Loja goes through Cotacocha ($ 3.5, 3 hours)
