PICHINCHA-QUITO

Arriving in Calacalí, just 30 minutes from the northern center of Quito, is to come to the past. In its streets and squares it is observed above all to elderly residents, who with their serene and rhythmic pace, seem to defy the accelerated rhythm that is shaken between the chest and back of all temporary visitors.

Here history is present, an example is the ancient pool of the town dating from the sixteenth century. "It was brought on horseback from the Plaza de San Francisco in Quito"; comments Jorge Morales, an artist and historian. The set of smooth stones and cold as stolen from a river was transferred to the parish by order of one of the authorities of the Cabildo of the early twentieth century. The decision was made, once around the pool in Quito, a quagmire had been formed that threatened the city's water supply.
