Balbanera church Colta

                                                It is the main attraction of Colta, first church built on Ecuadorian soil, so its beauty is historic. Raised by the Spaniards, its style of construction is colonial, its stone facade is the only witness of its history, you can get a fantastic view of the Nevado Chimborazo.

Historic Church venerates the Blessed Virgin Mary Natividad de Balbanera, next to the church there is a small square where you can see a cross, in which processions are made during the religious festivities and other events of the place once again exposing the religiosity and faith of the Ecuadorian people.

Built almost to the banks of the Colta Lagoon, it has a square that serves for the indigenous concentrations, as a background to the town of Villa Unión and to the majestic Chimborazo. The view is impressive the façade is of white limestone, with simple carvings. The Virgin of Balvanera is venerated. In the months of August and September celebrations are held in his honor.

This attraction is a must stop in Colta, the church was previously considered the oldest in South America, but today remains undoubtedly the oldest in the country.
