Azoguez (2500msnm) is the capital of the province of Cañar. Its geographical conditions provide spectacular views, so it is called the city of viewpoints. The Saturday fair is, as usual in the Ecuadorian Andes, the place where rural people gather to sell their agricultural products. The production of straw hats (Panama hats) is characteristic of the area. Its typical dish is the "pork hulls" which consists of golden leather of pork, served with chili motel.
Its main attraction is the Church of the Virgin of the Clouds, a Franciscan construction located in the highest part of the city on the hill of El Calvario. It is identified with the sick and a large field mass is celebrated on January 1 with thousands of participants. In the same way the month of May is of great celebrations towards the virgin ending with a pilgrimage on May 31.
