Amanta hill
COTOPAXI-SIGCHOS
(3624 masl)
It is an Inca construction on an elevation that in its highest part has a spiral ditch the size of a person that ascends to the top of the hill. From the highest part you have a 360 degree view that on clear days you can see the Pacific Ocean to the west and the mountain range to the east.
It is believed that it was a military fort, strategically placed to guard the steps and its original structure allowed to defend the position thanks to the ditch that allowed to go up and down the hill without being exposed. There is an artificial gap of several meters that is said to connect to other points of the mountain.
