The museum is located in the neighborhood of Todos Santos, at the intersection of Calle Larga and Mariano Cueva. It presents a sample of great archaeological value of different historical periods of Ecuador. It also has a select collection of paintings and handicrafts from the colonial era.
The museum was created by Juan Cordero Iñiguez that most of his life has been devoted to university teaching, to the study and the collection of material testimonies of the different regions of Ecuador, in its different historical phases: from the remotest antiquity, until the time of the colony, in solidly supported action, for more than two decades , for his wife, Ana López Moreno who runs the museum.
It has group guide services, specialized care for school children and a printed guide that is available to visitors who wish to do the tour individually.
The Fundación Cultural Cordero, which manages the museum, also has a library specializing in archaeology, art, history and Ecuadorian and Latin American literature, with more than 32,000 titles. A historical archive and a photo library are also part of this unit.
