The Protective Forest of Selva Viva is located next to the Arajuno River east of Ecuador, better said in the Ahuano community, Canton Tena, Province Napa. The protective forest always increases and extends from the mouth of the Rio Cosanos to the Rio Napo. Principles 2014 the protected area is 1'700 ha. The two hotels Liana Lodge and Runa Wasi as well as the animal rescue center are situated on the edge of the nature reserve and directly beside the river, see map.
In the protective forest is not allowed to cut and to hunt. Instead picking fruit and cutting lianas to weave baskets, as well as the harvest of medicinal plants, are allowed. The indigenous community of Ahuano accepts these prohibitions. The forest is known far from the limits of Ahuano because of its abundance of deer. The prohibition of hunting and logging can only be done because the protective forest is accepted by the local population and the state. The animals of amaZOOnico again released find in the natural reserve of the forest protector a new, safe place.

En carro privado: desde Tena toma la vía a Ahuano. Cuando llegues a la Y de Ahuano, sigue derecho hasta Puerto Barantilla (45min).
