"El Condor" binational Park Ecuador - Peru

MORONA SANTIAGO

The Binational Park was created in 1999, with an extension of 2440 hectares, is the ideal place to undertake an eco-tourism adventure, since it has relatively extensive areas, covered with little or no intervened natural vegetation.

When crossing the length of the Cordillera El Cóndor by the canton, it gives rise to the presence of different ecosystems, generated by the presence of several altitudinal floors. Unique landscapes of the jungle, bird species, mammals, amphibians, snakes and floral richness mark the territory of the canton as a space suitable for an activity little used in the environment, such as ecotourism and rural tourism, linking the villages that are Found on the edge of the forest and within it.

It is one of the richest areas of flora and fauna in relation to the area it occupies. The specialists consider it as "Sanctuary of endemic species", since it has the biodiversity bigger than any other area of similar size in the New World. The rare combination of habitat and geological history has spawned several unique species of fauna.

62.4% of the total cantonal area belongs to the El Cóndor reserve and ecological protection zone; Declared by ministerial agreement that establishes the National Park El Cóndor like Protected Area the 11 of June of 1999.
